Today I had a great mid-season meeting with Laura Beth Resnick of Butterbee Farm. LB is my great friend and colleague and it’s always a treat when we can go to our favorite coffee spot and catch up without hurrying. While we literally text each other several times a day, we don’t get to spend a lot of uninterrupted time together. Over breakfast sandwiches and coffee we talked about everything from menopause to Gilmore Girls, but our main topic of conversation was the plans LB and her husband Jascha have for their new farm. They’ll be moving in November and have many changes that will impact us in the months and years ahead.
Butterbee is one of our main flower suppliers. We work so closely any changes either of us make will affect each others business. So, we need to communicate effectively, LB is great at being really transparent and upfront and proactive about changes at the farm which is really helpful to us for planning purposes. The earlier we know things the better. For instance, LB told me pretty quickly after they bought their new farm that they would stop offering flowers on October 15th this year. We usually would be buying from them through at least Thanksgiving and sometimes beyond. With many months of notice, I was able to make a plan to buy flowers from other growers for the late Fall weddings and events we have. It might sound like a small thing, but it was important because we never want to panic approaching a wedding or event. LB is a good communicator and good partner and I’m so excited for what’s to come for her, her team and her family as Butterbee Farm expands.
